PPT BRACKETOLOGY
By Your Athletic Supporter, Jack Strap
This year's edition of the PPT (Poletti Poker Tournament) benefiting ACS' Relay for Life featured (11) seeded players BRACKETOLOGIED by the Les Portes (a.k.a. Leesport) Selection Committee.
The top seeds at the so-called Power Conferences Table BRACKET included the defending Champion Iron Mike (Duke), D.D. Bails (Pitt), F'in Ross (Ohio St), Swoop Poletti (Florida), Scholesy (Notre Dame), and "On the River" Reitzy (Wisconsin).
The lower seeds BRACKETED included Quick Mike (Morehead State), Mighty Kerr (Butler), Sheriff Hacker Bob (VCU @ Richmond), Magnum (Marquette), and Jack "of Hearts" Strap (Penn State). If you saw the lowly flops, turns & rivers at their table, you'd think that the PPT Selection Committee hadn't even given them any face cards.
The first to go all-in & out was Quick Mike as predictably More Head just wasn't in the cards. The 1st "Giant" to fall was the legendary D.D. Bails who like Pitt made a stupid play at the end of his gaming day. Then Jack Strap's Penn Staters appeared to have won their all-in play with a "Talor Battle" deuce of queens, but Mighty Kerr got his kings with an off-balance on the river buzzer-beater.
As the BRACKETS were narrowed to an Elite 8, the remaining lower seeds were disrespectfully sent on-the-road to the power conferences' home court table. There VCU @ Richmond (Hacker), Marquette (Magnum), and Butler (Mighty) battled for their lives against the high seeds and proceeded to giant-kill them off one-by-one with so-called upsets that nobody's BRACKETS had predicted.
Charles "The Round Mound of Bets Down" Barkley came on at halftime of one of the PPT Final 4 games and mockingly called the Power Conferences the Big Least and the Big 00. The PPT BRACKETOLOGY's Final 3 included VCU @ Richmond (Hacker), Marquette (Magnum), and Butler (Mighty) with Mag-quette falling to the VCU @ Richmond Hacker Spiders.
The PPT's Butler Bulldogs vs. the Hacker Spiders Championship was a great match-up that went back-and-forth as both lowly seeded teams showed the "big boys" their considerable talent. At one juncture in the 2nd half, Hacker Bob ate some K-Mill cookie cake (from the nice PPT spread) for energy and then took a late chip lead.
But at the end, it was Butler's Mighty Kerr who came up with the BRACKETOGOLY-winning play to take home all the chips and the PPT Championship. Since the main Winning at the Poletti Poker Tournament (besides all the money going to ACS's Relay for Life) is Bragging Rights (there wasn't even a plaque this year) and Mighty is a modest guy, Your Athletic Supporter Jack Strap will handle that bragging for Mighty.
